The skin around our eyes is very different from the skin on the rest of our face for the following reasons:
a) The skin is much thinner and delicate around the eye and tends to show signs of ageing more rapidly than other areas.
b) The eye area does not contain oil glands. Therefore, we need to keep this area hydrated and moist to prevent premature ageing.
c) Dark circles exist due to the blood vessels being translucent under the skin. This becomes more permanent with age as the skin loses its collagen and skin starts thinning....
d) Puffiness and fluid retention can occur due to age and fatigue which may make the swelling more prominent. The periorbital tissues are most noticeably swollen immediately after sleep which could be due to the redistribution of fluid whist you are in a horizontal position.
Treating the eye area is as important as the care taken when washing your favourite silk outfit. Give it special attention and treat it delicately.
Removing Eye Makeup
Some very gentle face cleansers are suitable for removing eye makeup. However, my preference is using a separate eye makeup remover. It allows you to successfully remove the makeup before cleansing the whole face. Plus, many eye makeup removers have ingredients that strengthen your eyelashes.
Eye creams/serums are formulated specifically for the skin around the eyes and have wonderful scientifically proven ingredients to combat puffiness, dark circles, fine lines and wrinkles.
These should be applied to clean skin before using a moisturiser. Gently pat a small dot of your eye cream around your orbital bone and crows feet area. Avoid going too close to the tear duct. Do NOT rub or stretch the skin.
We stock a wide range of eye creams/serums designed to help with specific concerns or to maintain general hydration.
