"Keeping your skin hydrated is the best thing you can do"

 ... I am sure you have heard this many times but how can you optimise hydration?

Even if your skin is oily it can still be dehydrated and that's where it gets confusing. Dehydrated skin may experience a feeling of tightness. You may have the appearance of fine lines especially when smiling, or have redness and irritation.

Most of us are aware to drink eight (8) glasses of water a day and to get eight (8) hours sleep.  Both are important but they may not be enough for you!

What cleanser are you using?

Believe it or not some cleansers actually dehydrate your skin especially if you are using a foaming cleanser for oily skin.
Your oil glands produce even more sebum (oil) at the first signs of dehydration, so often if you're using products to combat oily skin you're probably doing more harm than good. If you’re using products to dry out your skin, you won't be replacing the much needed moisture. 

Use a cleanser that does not contain drying ingredients such as:

  • SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulphate) - This can cause natural oil and moisture loss.
  • Polyethylene Glycol - this is found in many cleansers and even in OVEN CLEANERS too. This causes dryness/irritation and acne.

Finding the right cleanser is very important even if it is on your skin for only a minute or two.

Look at your moisturisers!

Is your moisturiser or similar skin product really giving you the hydration you need?

Getting products that contain Hyaluronic Acid will improve the natural moisturising factor which is found in the deeper layers of the skin. Hyaluronic Acid is known as the nature’s super moisturiser and it is able to hold up to 1000 times its weight in water.  When it is applied topically you will deeply hydrate by constantly attracting moisture to the skin without increasing the oil content.
This is why Hyaluronic Acid is essential for dehydrated skin.

Eat & Dring Well

Eat fruit and vegetables that have a higher water content such as:

  • watermelon
  • cucumber
  • lettuce
  • grapes

Water is the best drink to keep you hydrated and unfortunately your cup of coffee or English Breafast tea is not the answer.

  • If water is a to bland for you, add a slice of lime or lemon
  • Herbal tea is also a good alternative.

The few tips we have given here will help to boost your hydration levels so your skin will look as smooth as a peach, not wrinkly like a prune.
